How wedding gown preservation works

What museum-style gown preservation involves, why timing matters, and what's inside an archival box.

Wedding gown preservation is the process of cleaning a gown by hand and sealing it in an acid-free, archival box so it can survive decades without yellowing or fabric damage.

Timing matters. Champagne, body oils and dirt set over time and become harder to remove. Cleaning soon after the wedding gives the best result.

At Joy, preservation includes hand cleaning, inspection and repair of loose beading where possible, and boxing in acid-free archival materials. We can arrange pickup so you never have to transport the gown yourself.

β—† Common questions

Related questions, answered.

Can heirloom gowns be preserved?

Yes. Vintage and heirloom gowns are handled by hand with extra care; we assess the fabric and beading first and discuss any limitations with you.

How long does preservation take?

Preservation is a multi-step process and we give a clear timeline at intake β€” it is not same-day work, and rushing it does not produce a museum-style result.
